MUNICIPALITY OF CARNOTA
AGASALLO NATURAL
The municipality of Carnota is located in the western end of A Coruña, south of Fisterra, bordering the municipalities of Muros, Dumbría and Mazaricos. The population of the municipality amounts to 3,854 inhabitants, spread over 66.4 square kilometers and is made up of five parishes: San Clemente do Pindo, San Mamede, Santa Columba de Carnota, Santa María de Lira and San Martiño de Lariño.

The distribution of the population is very uneven, with the majority concentrated in the Carnota Valley, an immense amphitheater surrounded by mountains and fields that are protected from the sea by dunes and marshes.
The orography of the municipality is uneven, with alternating valleys and slopes, and does not exceed 700 meters of altitude; the highest peak is A Moa, the summit of Monte Pindo. The hydrographic network is made up of rivers and streams including the Vadebois river whick stands out but without forgetting the Xallas, which serves as the northern boundary with the municipality of Dumbría, one of the few rivers in Europe that flows into a waterfall (the well-known Ézaro Waterfall).
The most iconic of Carnota’s municipality landscape without a doubt is the granite rock of Mount Pindo, which forms an incomparable natural space of geomorphological aspect.
The climate of Carnota is Atlantic, with an average annual rainfall of around 1,650 mm and average temperatures of 16.2 Cº.
The natives traditional activities were, until not long ago, fishing and agriculture, but they have been losing weight. At present we can say that the richness of the local coastline allows for commercial exploitation of sea resources, a sector in which the Turbot Farms of Lira and Quilmas stand out.
The Municipality has two well-known Seaports with fishing activity, Lira and Pindo.
