Carnota beach challenged runners in the 33rd Sands Race
Carnota lived this Sunday a day to remember the celebration of the XXXIII Carreira das Areas, a historic edition for being the first to take place during the summer season. The change of dates does not remain attractive to the most unique events of the Galician popular calendar, which once again converts the immense Praia de Carnota into a spectacular sports venue.
The participants over distances of 3km and 10km had to face a very difficult route, with the constant presence of water over the area, a circumstance that made a unique race even more difficult. At a distance of 10km, the victory was for Francisco Pais, accompanied on the podium by Eloi Couso and Jaci Vello. In the women's category, Tina Fernández won ahead of Clara Pazos and Diana Balboa. After 3km there are also great sporting moments. Nicolás Iglesias crossed the finish line in first position, followed by Luis Miguel Feito and Carlos Fraga. Among the women, Alejandra Formoso claimed victory thanks to her daughter Eva Formoso and Ana Alvite.
Precisely one of the images from tomorrow showed the final meters of the race, when irmáns Formoso Recarey starred in an exciting entry into the finish line, winning the first women's positions, in an outcome that aroused the applause of the audience present. The day also included Sara Vieites, who completed the 3km and entered the finish line just a few minutes before the start of the queen 10km race.
Among the most special moments, we also highlighted the participation of Alianza Uhía, a technician from the Culture of the Council of Carnota, who completed the 3km on the first road of his life. Usually linked to the trial organization, where she has spent years working to make each edition a success, on this occasion she was able to live the experience from the other side, wearing a runner's shirt.
The organization would like to thank the work of all the volunteers who made the career development possible, as well as the collaboration of Jerreiro's colleagues, from Civil Protection and the Local Police, whose involvement was fundamental to guarantee safety and the functioning of the test.
Three editions later, Carreira das Areas continues to demonstrate that it preserves intact its ability to combine sport, landscape and emotion in two of the most impressive natural spaces in Galicia.
